The ZNR Transient/Surge Absorber made by Panasonic is the best simple device to protect the reed switch and prolong the life of all reed switch based motors.

The ZNR is now a part of kits #1-5, 8-10, 13-14. However, if you decided to build a reed switch motor yourself from household materials you may add this part – it extends the life of your motor considerably. It also allows to experiment with higher voltages.

The ZNR can be used both in AC and DC circuits for protection of either positive and negative transients. These transients, or voltage spikes cause a spark inside the reed switch glass tube and significantly reduce the life of the reed switch.
